Barton Springs
Barton Springs is a natural spring in Austin, TX. There are many things to do at the spring such as relaxing, hanging out with friends, or just swimming in the springs, and there is a diving board for fun. Outside the entrance to the springs is an open field that can be used for many things, such as for sports, having a picnic, or just hanging out with friends. The pool is open everyday of the week from 5:00 AM- 10:00 PM.
West Cave Preserve
West Cave Preserve is a great place to see some beautiful nature around Austin. There is a fantastic visitor center which has a large amount of information on the area including detailed lists of flora and fauna (plant and animal life) and a detailed description of each, as well as things they are used for and interesting information and facts about them. The visitor center includes topographic maps of the area as well as information about the geographical makeup of the region. It also has a large section of information on how to be environmentally friendly, and shows how rain catchers and purifiers work. Apart from the visitor center, the main attraction would be the trails leading down to a river that forms a pool and some caves. The caves are not big, but are very interesting and beautiful to visit, and it is interesting to see how they formed because of the dripping water. Guided tours are mandatory here because of the presence of venemous snakes in the area. Don't let this scare you! This is a great place to see some incredible natural features, and is definitely worth the visit!
Inner Space Caverns
Inner Space Caverns is a wonderful natural attraction that anyone of all ages can enjoy. The cavern was discovered in 1963, and still 50 years later, the cavern attracts a countless amount of tourists. The hours that the caverns are open are on the weekdays, they are open from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. On Sunday, they are open from 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM. On Saturday, they are open from 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
Hamilton Pool
Hamilton Pool was created when the ceiling of an underground river collapsed from erosion that occurred over the thousands of years, which created the natural pool. A trail goes down to the cave from the parking lot. After following a small creek, you arrive at the pool itself. A trail goes around the cave and up onto the cliffs on the edge of the pool. There are rails to ensure safety on these cliffs. Swimming is not always advised in the natural pool, because whirlpools do exist in the deep parts, and can be very dangerous to swimmers.
